As the world focuses on the Paris Olympics, cheering for their nations, there's a place in Uganda where Olympic values are practiced daily—the Youth Centre in Moroto, dedicated to Don Vittorione and attended by hundreds of young people.
Pope Francis once said, "Sport is a universal language that transcends borders, languages, races, nationalities, and religions; it unites people, fosters dialogue and mutual acceptance, promotes self-improvement, teaches sacrifice, and encourages loyalty in interpersonal relationships."
What Happens at the Youth Centre?
- Sports: Beyond being a physical activity, sport is a universal language that builds bridges, promotes peace, and unites people.
- Breaking down prejudices: Fostering friendships and breaking stereotypes.
- Growing together: Teaching mutual respect and personal growth.
- Workshops: Discussions on family, community, and the role of the group.
- Peace and dialogue: Promoting peace, addressing violence, and gender-based abuse.
- Collaboration: Learning to work with others, developing talents, and enhancing cooperation.
At the Centre, young people are not only physically active but also engage in personal and community development, embracing values of peace and friendship.
