Youth empowerment

Youth empowerment

Project funded by: BMZ (German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development)

In collaboration with: WHH (Welthungerhilife)

Program duration: two months in 2019 - two months in 2020

In the project, carried out together with the German NGO Welthungerhilfe and mainly financed by BMZ (German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development), the component managed AMCD lasted 2 months. It entered a broad context that aimed to improve the well-being and food and nutrition security of the agro-pastoral communities of East Africa. In 2020, the program included the training of entrepreneurial and life skills - small craft and commercial opportunities - of 150 very vulnerable young people (in a state of so-called ultra-poverty) and of 6 community mentors of the sub-counties of Katikekile and Tapac in the district of Moroto.

Steps were taken to provide young people with basic literacy and vocational training to start small income-generating businesses. The aim was to lead the young people trained to get out of extreme poverty by working independently, which will provide them and their children with a lasting income base.
The training covered: literacy and basic calculation; nutrition, namely preparing meals and learning about foods;
site inspections to see live how businesses are managed; life skills such as the use of interpersonal skills, stress management, negotiation, savings. The heart of the training concerned entrepreneurial techniques, that is learning essential commercial skills to allow the management of self-generating, income-generating work activities.
At the end of the course the participants were able to identify the desired business form. They were followed in the initial phase of the entrepreneurial activities also with the delivery of
some basic tools to start your own business, depending on the type they have selected.

General objective:
improve the well-being and food and nutrition security of the agro-pastoral communities in the target villages.

Specific objectives:
decrease illiteracy and malnutrition and increase activities
work, decrease gender inequality
