Location: Karamoja Region, Moroto and Napak Districts, Bokora and Matheniko counties, under the counties of Matany, Lokopo, Lopeei, Iriiri, Lorengechora, Moroto Municipality, North and South divisions

Results

1) 16 child protection committees are active in the 4 sub-counties, with a total of 64 members in charge of identifying, monitoring, reporting and solving problems relating to the protection of children in their communities.

2) Database running and updated monthly information locally from CPCs. This database will be available for any development partner engaged in child protection programs.

3) Almost 2,500 children in 8 selected schools in the 4 sub-counties have access to a safer and more secure school environment, such as preventing, identifying and directing violence, exploitation and abuse.

4) CPCs will conduct monthly public discussions / dialogues in each of the 16 parishes involved, reaching and raising awareness of 8,000 community members. In addition, it is expected that 5,000 people will participate in the 6 concerted concerts. All this to improve understanding, awareness and possible solutions to child protection cases.

5) 800 children reinforced on advocacy in child protection issues in which they are directly involved.

Effects

- establishment of child protection committees in villages

- partial change in the mentality of the population, especially with regard to the effects of child labor and child abandonment

- support for local artists as agents of change of society

- increased the level of monitoring of children's living conditions in villages

- A civil society communication network has been set up for child issues

Disadvantages:

- the involvement of local authorities in addressing issues relating to minors



Direct beneficiaries: 12,000 children (50% females) most at risk of between 0 and 14 years of age living in the sub-counties of Lokopo, Lopeei, Matany and Iriiri and 800 children (50% females) involved in recreational activities.

Results

• identified, selected and formed 64 members of commissions in the 4 selected sub-contests of Matany, Lokopo, Lopeei and Iriiri - 16 formed committees;

• Forms 12 social workers active in the 4 sub-contractions;

• 8,000 community members sensitized on child protection issues through monthly debates in the selected 16 parishes;

• Periodic creation and updating of the archive on childhood by formed committees and subgroup workgroups and sharing of results with district authorities and other project partners - 193 OVC identified - 79 assisted children;

• Co-ordination between the actors involved;

• Monthly public debates;

• 6 schools involved in the "safe schools" program;

• 6 Concerts realized taking the primary schools involved;

• 800 children involved in sporting competitions, traditional games ... to know them about their rights and raise awareness of their issues.

Direct beneficiaries: 12,800 children.

Indirect beneficiaries: 64 members of committees, 12 social workers, 2,500 in 8 selected schools, 400 parents, 40 teachers, 8,000 community members.
