L'ECO dello sprECO - Waste Echo

Exhibition

Closely linked to the awareness raising and education meetings in schools (page link), "L'ECO dello sprECO" is an exhibition that treats the broad subject of waste, trying to make us think about its several effects.

According to FAO, the quantity of food that goes straight in the trash is more than 35% of the total production, with an economic estimated cost of about one trillion dollars each year. Agriculture uses about 70% of fresh water: food wastage means water dissipation. In 2012 almost a billion of people,  11% of world's population, did not have access to safe drinking water (OMS 2012). In Italy alone, 1.4 million tonnes of products are left in the fields every year, often because it is unprofitable to collect them.

Water, food and food wastage are closely connected. The urban generation of waste surely represents one of the indicators of major pressure in Italian cities, not only in environmental terms, but also in economic and consumption terms. Despite everything, we believe that food wastage is not the only major form of waste currently present in our society.

L'ECO DELLO SPRECO is therefore the slogan chosen for this exhibition.

The event aims to involve the young people, not only in visiting, but it also invite them to take part in it: The material will indeed be created by different schools of different schools levels, that will be in charge of developing a type of waste and ideate and create works such as videos, paintings, writings and poems, representations or songs to be performed in the exhibition.
