Context:
The Don Vittorio Youth Center is a key initiative of AMCD, operational since the 1990s, designed to be a hub for youth development in Karamoja. Founded by Don Vittorione Pastori, the Center aims to foster growth, instill values, and create a supportive community for young people.

Objectives

General Objective:
To enhance the life expectancy and quality of life of children and youth in the Moroto district by promoting educational and recreational activities that foster a non-violent, unarmed society.

Specific Objectives:

  • Reduce the number of street children in the Moroto district.
  • Decrease children's exposure to risky behaviors, such as substance abuse and sexual exploitation.
  • Promote Catholic culture and universal values.
  • Enhance educational practices and reduce school dropout rates.

Activities

  • Sports Tournaments:
    Organize football and netball tournaments (Uhuru Cup) for local primary schools.

  • Street Children Recovery Program:
    Implement initiatives to support and reintegrate street children into their families.

  • Youth Engagement Programs:
    Collaborate with youth groups from Italy for cultural exchange and activities.

  • Educational Screenings:
    Host educational video exhibitions in primary schools to promote learning.

  • Celebrations:
    Celebrate the birth and legacy of Don Vittorio through community events.

  • Christian Animation Activities:
    Conduct activities that promote Christian values among youth.

  • School Campaigns:
    Lead campaigns focused on reopening schools and encouraging attendance.

  • Arts and Performance:
    Organize music, dance, and theater performances to showcase youth talent.

  • Support for Young Mothers:
    Provide programs specifically aimed at young mothers, including life skills training.

  • Recreational Activities:
    Offer drawing, sports, and other recreational activities for children.

  • Psychological Support:
    Implement programs for psychological support and peer education.

  • Crime Prevention Seminars:
    Conduct seminars aimed at preventing serious crimes with 250 youth participants.

  • Reflection Sessions:
    Facilitate moments of reflection with the Africa Mission Moroto group.

Sub-project: Sewing & Tailoring

Overview:
The Sewing & Tailoring program, part of the Youth Center's initiatives, focuses on empowering young mothers by providing a basic sewing course.

Details:

  • Course Duration: 3 months with two weekly sessions.
  • Market Relevance: Tailoring skills are highly sought after in the Ugandan market, providing economic opportunities for participants.
