Socio-educational sector

The latest UNICEF report highlights the critical issues relating to the education of children and adolescents worldwide. Situations of extreme inadequacy still remain in low-income countries today: the number of trained teachers is insufficient, learning materials are lacking, mixed classes and the lack of health services in schools make learning difficult. This is added to external factors such as malnutrition, lack of access to health care, physical and mental tiredness due to domestic work, in the fields or in the livestock sector. Due to the closure of schools due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, 870 million students around the world have lost the year and have decided to abandon their education.

AMCD's intervention fits into this context, through the promotion of awareness-raising, training, educational and recreational-recreational activities within the Community Development Center of Moroto, which hosts the Don Vittorione Youth Center, an environment for school support with the ''W la scuola'' initiative and cutting and sewing courses for young mothers.

Every day 250 young people were involved in awareness-raising and recreational activities in the activities of the Don ''Vittorio'' Youth Centre, 956 street children took advantage of the service for family reunification, thus abandoning street life and 25 street young people were been included in a vocational training program
In 2023, several projects were launched in the educational field, in particular the youth empowerment project ''Increasing opportunities for youth participation and empowerment - IOYPE'' financed by the EU and the DCA, in collaboration with the Diocese of Kotido which deals with vocational training in various fields with the aim of contributing to the economic inclusion and empowerment of disadvantaged youth in the districts of Karenga, Kaabong, Napak, Nakapiripirit and Moroto.
The collaboration project between Italian and Ugandan schools continued to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Africa Mission Cooperation and Development''A school of solidarity: a bridge between Italy and Uganda'', financed by the Piacenza and Vigevano Foundation, which it ended in June 2023 and involved Italian and Ugandan children in a long-distance exchange that promotes mutual knowledge, solidarity and acceptance from childhood.
The educational sector is one of the pillars of AMCD: by giving children and adolescents the opportunity to access school services, professional training and recreational activities, it contributes in the medium term to raising greater awareness among young people about the importance of receiving education and to prepare for one's future and in the long term to combat the phenomenon of school dropouts, unemployment and street life, which still lead today to dramatic consequences such as alcohol abuse, violence and abuse, going to increase insecurity in the Karamoja region. Thanks to the inclusion of children and adolescents in appropriate educational paths, AMCD provides the opportunity not only to learn notions, but also to socialize, to learn to relate to teachers, the importance of assuming one's responsibilities and growing together, feeling part of the community and participating in an active and proactive manner.
AMCD's intervention is in line with Ugandan policies on education, in particular the Gender Education Policies of 2010 which provide for the promotion of equal participation in the school system, the fair transmission of knowledge without distinction of sex, ensure programs for gender equality and create an appropriate environment for all; the Early Childhood Development Policy of 2008 relating to the education of the youngest; the Revised Education Sector Strategic Plan, 2007-2015 which includes the increase and improvement of access to educational services that guarantee equity and quality and greater efficiency of primary education. Regarding adult and vocational training, the Ministry of Education and Sports updated The Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Policy in 2019, in line with the BTVET Strategic Plan 2021/22 ''Skilling Uganda'', to encourage training and the acquisition of skills in various fields, contributing to the development of the country.
