The world needs you too!
Join us on this journey that takes us to the heart of Africa: you will experience great joy, as together we will become the most beautiful gift for those who are still waiting for a more just and fraternal world. It cannot just be a brief moment in someone's life. Volunteering is a life choice that takes shape in various ways, either in Italy or in the poorest countries of the world.
To commit ourselves to volunteering, we must believe that we can make a difference. This is the challenge we face. To do this, we need a lot of passion, great enthusiasm, strong conviction, willingness to change, and openness to help, without assuming we have all the answers or are always right. We must be ready to take risks while avoiding the ever-present danger of self-promotion, acknowledging our privileges and turning them into service.
"Volunteering is one of the most beautiful things. Because with their freedom, each person chooses to embark on this path, which is a journey outward toward others, a journey with an outstretched hand, a journey to care for others. (...) Volunteering is the effort to go out and help others. There's no such thing as desk-bound volunteering, and there's no TV volunteering, no. Volunteering is always about going out, with an open heart, an outstretched hand, and legs ready to move. Going out to meet and going out to give."
(Pope Francis)
Our Movement has been active for over fifty years because dozens of people have decided to dedicate themselves spiritually and practically, sharing our "Mission" and "Vision." Some have chosen to contribute in Italy by organizing awareness-raising activities, sharing their experiences, and fundraising, while others have decided to commit their efforts in Uganda, becoming involved in the operational work and projects of the NGO.
In Italy, you can engage in volunteer activities regularly or participate occasionally in organizing and running events and campaigns to support fundraising efforts and Global Citizenship Education.
If you live in the province of Piacenza or nearby areas, you can come to the office to help the staff with their daily tasks. We need volunteers to help during events, fairs, concerts, and street festivals to promote our Ugandan crafts. You can also help us by promoting AMCD online.
If you want to get involved but don’t live near Piacenza, check if one of our secondary offices is close to you: look for the nearest group on our website.
We need volunteers to spread the word about the solidarity projects we carry out in Uganda among friends and acquaintances by organizing small gatherings or meetings (even with small groups of friends or family). You can also help organize photo exhibitions in your area.
Encourage your colleagues to participate in one of the cultural exchange projects between Italian and Ugandan schools.
Many organizations operate in social services in Africa, each with its own mission and unique operational style. Therefore, to volunteer abroad, it’s important to fully understand and embrace the organization's goals, mission, and approach. To achieve this, we organize introductory meetings and invite interested individuals to take part in initiatives carried out at the national level.
To embark on a volunteer trip to Uganda, a specific training program is necessary to deepen your understanding of international cooperation projects, the local context we work in, the challenges of staying in the field, and the opportunities and risks involved.
In addition, conditions must be met in the field to accommodate volunteers and interns. The ongoing projects must be in a state that allows us to provide supervision from an experienced project manager and assign the volunteer a specific role.
Other unique volunteer experiences include:
AMCD is an accredited body, so it's possible to undertake a 12-month volunteer period in Italy (Piacenza) or one of our offices in Uganda (Moroto – Alito).
Are you a high school student? Suggest to your school that they set up an agreement and discover the nonprofit world with short-term work experience at our organization.
AMCD can involve aspiring volunteers in its activities in Italy and Uganda, based on their educational path.
If you're ready to dedicate part of your life to supporting activities in Uganda within a cooperation project, check out the open positions below.
