Context:
The ongoing civil war in South Sudan has led to a significant refugee crisis, with Uganda currently hosting nearly 2,000,000 refugees, predominantly from South Sudan. This project aims to improve the socioeconomic conditions of both the local Ugandan population and the South Sudanese refugees by promoting sustainable land sharing and social integration.

Objectives

General Objective:
To enhance the socioeconomic conditions of the local Ugandan population and South Sudanese refugees through sustainable land sharing and improved social integration.

Specific Objective:
To reduce extreme poverty and marginalization of the refugee population in the Adjumani district by fostering social cohesion, strengthening associative and entrepreneurial capacities, and creating sustainable circular economy processes.

Main Lines of Action

  1. Capacity Development:

    • Promote associative capacities and conflict mitigation.
    • Enhance labor skills (hard skills) and social cohesion (soft skills).
    • Foster the growth of income-generating activities.

  2. Food Self-Sufficiency:

    • Strengthen agricultural and livestock production capacities.
    • Encourage commercial investment capabilities.

  3. Environmental Improvement:

    • Improve hygiene conditions and environmental protection.
    • Combat desertification and promote energy savings.
    • Recycle organic and inorganic waste.

Direct Beneficiaries

The program aims to directly benefit approximately 13,771 individuals, including various groups of refugees and local Ugandans in the targeted camps and surrounding areas.

Conclusion

This initiative seeks to create a more integrated and sustainable community, addressing the challenges faced by both refugees and the local population. By leveraging circular micro-economics, the project aspires to foster a collaborative environment that improves living conditions and promotes resilience among vulnerable populations.
