Context:
The Karamoja region has the lowest literacy rates and highest school dropout rates in Uganda. Approximately 86% of the youth population has never attended school, and many are unemployed or work in precarious conditions, compared to only 5% in Kampala (UBOS, 2017). The inability to pay school fees is cited by 69.8% of youth as the main reason for dropping out. With average Ugandan families having 5 to 6 children, the cost of education becomes a significant burden.

In response, Africa Mission - Cooperation and Development has launched the "Long Live the School" campaign to create a support fund aimed at enhancing the educational opportunities for Ugandan children.

Objectives

General Objective:
To improve the life expectancy of future Ugandan generations by supporting schools and students in their educational journey, fostering a non-violent and peaceful society.

Specific Objectives:

• Reduce the number of street children in the Moroto district.
• Provide material and food support to several schools.
• Promote school attendance and reduce dropout rates.
• Increase enrollment in schools and monitor student performance through follow-up visits for guidance and counseling.
• Decrease children's exposure to risky behaviors, including alcohol and drug abuse, sexual exploitation, child marriage, and hygiene-related infections like HIV.
• Support the families of beneficiary students.
• Develop practical, intellectual, and social skills within the community.
• Engage youth in recreational, sports, and educational activities at the "Don Vittorio" youth center.

Methods of Intervention

1. School Support:

   • Maintenance and adaptation of school facilities, provision of teaching materials, food, and blankets.
   • Support for schools in both Moroto and Kampala.

2. Financial Assistance for Students:

   • Covering school fees, uniforms, accommodation, and necessary materials (pencils, notebooks, etc.) for children in need.
   • On-site staff monitor and verify the eligibility of students, ensuring they are motivated and capable of completing their education.
