Context

The population of Karamoja relies on agro-pastoralism, with a strong interaction between humans and animals. This proximity increases the risk of zoonoses, diseases that can pass from animals to humans.

General Objective

To contribute to the reduction of the incidence of communicable diseases in the Ugandan districts of Napak and Moroto, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 3 and the objectives of the National One Health Strategic Plan.

Specific Objective

To increase the adherence of communities, health facilities, and district authorities to practices and services for the prevention, diagnosis, and epidemiological surveillance necessary for the containment of potentially epidemic infections.

Planned Interventions

1. Infection Prevention at the Community Level:

  • Rehabilitation of 70 wells and construction of 210 pit latrines.
  • Promotion of safe hygiene practices to combat open defecation.

2. Improvement of Control Practices at the Health Level:

  • Strengthening the capacities of Napak and Moroto hospitals and 16 selected peripheral health centers for infection prevention and surveillance.

3. Surveillance of Animal Diseases and Animal Welfare:

  • Training of veterinary and para-veterinary personnel.
  • Support for livestock vaccination and strengthening of the alert system for zoonoses.

Conclusion

The "ALL IN ONE" project aims to build an integrated system for the prevention and control of infectious diseases, promoting human, animal, and environmental health in a context of strong interdependence.
