In Karamoja, AMCS established three "climate change adaptation" centers in Nakichumet, Namalu, and Nadunget in June 2020. These learning centers, created by GIZ in 2013, serve as regional hubs for transferring innovations and technologies. Nakichumet, located in the agro-pastoral zone of Napak, was founded in 2013 along the Moroto-Soroti road. Namalu was established in 2014 in Nakapiririt along the Moroto-Mbale road, situated in the agricultural area. Nadunget, established in 2018, is located in the agro-pastoral zone of Moroto along the same Moroto-Soroti road.
Karamoja faces a significant educational gap, with primary education lagging behind national standards and no university available. To address this, the 'CCA Learning' program and centers collaborate closely with local government partners to provide a conducive learning environment and unique facilities for knowledge transfer, practical demonstrations, and climate adaptation technology. Services are extended from the learning centers to communities through tailored learning programs.
In addition to offering customized training for individuals and groups, the centers provide climate-smart production technologies and grow a variety of tree seedlings in greenhouses. Furthermore, the learning centers connect rural communities with research institutions and national universities, offering opportunities for student internships.
